If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

Progress in context

How the progress estimate works

The Reading tool provides honest estimates of how long it might take to read each book, based on its word count. These are rough guidelines, not exact timers. Your actual time may vary depending on your reading speed and how much time you have.

Books are grouped into four reading time categories: quick (under 2 hours), steady (2-4 hours), immersive (4-10 hours), and marathon (over 10 hours). You can filter by these to find a book that matches your available time.

Quick Reads

8 books are estimated to take under 2 hours. These are perfect for a short sitting. For instance, 'The dark' is about 95 minutes.

Steady Reads

25 books fall in the 2-4 hour range. These can be finished in a few evenings. An example is 'The Gayton Scholarship' at 182 minutes.

Immersive Reads

57 books are longer, taking 4-10 hours. These are great for weekend reading. 'The Wyndham Girls' is 331 minutes, a good immersive option.

Steady Progress

Reading Tracker

The Reading Tracker helps you finish a book by breaking it into daily page goals. It records your current page, total pages, and daily goal. If a fixed catalog page count is not available, it estimates total pages by dividing the word count by 250. You can replace that estimate with the page count from your own edition.

Set a Realistic Goal

The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can adjust it. For a book like The Children of Cupa — A Closer Reading, which has 36,404 words, the estimated total pages would be 146 (36,404 ÷ 250 ≈ 146). At 20 pages per day, you would finish in about 8 days. If you prefer a slower pace, 10 pages per day would take about 15 days.

The tracker also estimates remaining time based on your progress. If you are on page 50 of 146, the remaining pages are 96, and at 20 pages per day you would finish in 5 days. The estimate is proportional: remaining minutes = estimated minutes × remaining pages ÷ total pages.

Adjust for Your Edition

Page counts can vary between editions, so the tracker lets you enter the total pages shown by your reading app or physical copy. If your edition of The Children of Cupa has 160 pages instead of 146, you can update the total, and the estimates will adjust accordingly. This ensures your progress is accurate.

The tracker stores your history in the browser’s localStorage, so you can close the page and return later without losing your place. No account is needed, and the data stays on your device.

Use Page-Based Progress

Progress is measured in pages, not sections or minutes. This is a deliberate choice: pages are a consistent unit that you can see in your book. If you read 20 pages one day and 15 the next, you know exactly where you stand. The tracker does not record time spent reading, so it is up to you to estimate how long a page takes.

For a longer book, such as Indian and Scout (106,436 words, estimated 426 pages), a daily goal of 20 pages would take about 21 days. That is a substantial commitment, but the tracker makes it manageable by showing your progress one day at a time.

A Simple Example

Suppose you start The Children of Cupa with a goal of 20 pages per day. On day 1, you read to page 20. The tracker shows 20 of 146 pages, with 126 remaining. The estimated remaining time is 159 minutes × 126 ÷ 146 ≈ 137 minutes, or about 2.3 hours. You would finish in 7 days (ceil(126 ÷ 20) = 7). This concrete picture helps you plan your reading week.
